Ngorongoro Crater
Located in northern Tanzania and forming part of the greater Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and one of the most spectacular safari destinations on the planet. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was formed over 2 million years ago when a massive volcano erupted and collapsed in on itself.
The result is a breathtaking natural amphitheater nearly 20 kilometers wide and over 600 meters deep, teeming with wildlife in one of the most densely populated game areas in Africa. Its rich, self-contained ecosystem supports over 25,000 animals, including all members of the Big Five.
